When and why did you start training for fighting? I started MMA when I was 14 years old. It was the first combat sport I tried, and I took to it straight away! I’ve never looked back since. I suppose I started because I was a pretty small kid, and I felt the need early on in life to learn how to defend myself. I was always aware of conflict and situations where it could arise, and I wanted to feel I could handle myself when the circumstances arose.
What professional titles have you held? I don’t currently hold any titles in MMA - I’m waiting for the UFC world title to be my first.
Any accomplishments in amateur combat sports? As an amateur. I won multiple titles like the Cage Warriors Academy title and the European Cage Warriors Grand Prix, which earned me a pro contract with the promotion!
Any belts/ ranks in grappling disciplines? I’m currently a BJJ brown belt working towards my black!
What has been your toughest fight to date and why? My toughest fight to date would have to be my fight Michele Martignoni back in 2021. At the time he was undefeated, 6-0, and since has gone on to win Cage Warriors gold. I finished him in the third round with a rear naked choke after a back-and-forth battle. What made this fight so tough, though, was that on fight day I woke up so ill with food poisoning and still managed to battle through 3 rounds and earn a submission victory late in the fight! This, along with other obstacles I’ve overcome, has helped forge my bombproof mindset towards competing.
Who is your favorite fighter and why? Hard to pick a favorite because there’s so many I respect for so many different reasons. Growing up, I always looked up to Urijah Faber, as he paved the way for the lighter weight class guys. He was a trail blazer. I also am a big fan of Alexander Volkanovski. Well-rounded, world class gas tank, and seems like a sick bloke.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I never went to college. As soon as I finished school I worked a few s**tty jobs and pursued fighting. I’ve always known this is what I wanted to do.
What was your job before you started fighting? I worked as a janitor in a church / fitness centre for a few months. I also waited tables for a bit and worked in a retail store. All were just a means to an end to fund my training.
Personal Life/Background: I live with my brothers, George and Harvey, and our dad Andrew. I have a little sister who lives with my mum. I have an amazing girlfriend called Priya, who’s been with me since the start, literally the last 10 years (we met when we were in school). I have a few real close friends, and then there’s the boys in the gym. I keep my circle small and I’m chasing the dream every day and everyone in my team knows this and has full faith in me!
